MASSKARA FESTIVAL OF CITY OF SMILES
Masskara Festival is a primary festival of Bacolod City Negros Occidental (Negros Island Region) that held annually in every month of October.
This Festival will announced first by their Mayor (but this 2016 our current President Rodrigo Roa Duterte announced Masskara festival was officially started) and followed by a Mass of Catholic Bishops of Bacolod City. During festival, the Lacson Street (was the main road of Bacolod City) filled by kiosk. chicken inasal (roasted chicken of Negros) booth, carnivals, balloon vendors and etc.
Also different baranggay of city presented their costumes and their dance number from Street dance Competition, their Dance Number and the Masskara Queen.
This Festival was stated from a tragic events, it was started since the sugar industry of Negros was came into a lowest point. Since Bacolod and Negros is the main producer of Sugar in country.
Another tragic happened when 700 people died from MV DON MARIANO vessel, and those 700 people died is came from a prominent families in Negros. Masskara Festival created the reason is despite of Big problems, Negrenses as well as Bacolenos will still wear their smiles on their faces.
And their light colors wore of dancers, are symbolizes their colorful culture of Negrenses and their concepts are represented to the main products and common livelihood of Negrenses from past.
The main event during this festival commonly held at Lacson Street, Bacolod Public Plaza and in New Government Center. Not only filipinos participated in this festival but our Filipino-Chinese, Koreans, Indian and Muslims communities are participating. In first day of this celebration, tourist from abroad and from different regions visited this colorful and happiest celebrations that can filipinos will proud because they know not only in entire Philippines but international.
